Use this guide to help plan your visit to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA.

Before You Arrive

  • Minimize bags and personal items to move more quickly through security screening.
  • Don't bring outside food (bottled water is permitted). Review the full list of prohibited items.  
  • Plan ahead if you are visiting with a large group or on a field trip.

Map & Directions

  • Use your favorite mapping tool to get to Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, 14390 Air and Space Museum Pkwy, Chantilly, VA 20151. Exit from Route 28 to get to the main entrance. Check out our tips for getting here.
  • Tip: Some mapping tools misdirect to a closed security road off Rt. 50 where no visitor entry is allowed.

Parking

  • Parking is $15 (free after 4pm)
  • Bring your parking ticket inside to pay before you leave and expedite your exit through the parking gates.
  • Drop-offs are free if the driver exits the parking lot within 30 minutes.

Entry Screening

  • All visitors pass through security screening upon entry. Do not bring prohibited items inside. Review our other guidelines.
  • Lines can form outside the building on busy days. Be prepared for heat or inclement weather.

John L. Plueger Family Welcome Center

  • Visit the John L. Plueger Family Welcome Center, located directly behind security screening. There you can grab a Museum map and get information and recommendations from volunteers.
  • Sensory bags are available at the John L. Plueger Family Welcome Center for neurodiverse visitors. Bags include noise reduction headphones, fidget toys, and other tools to help make the Museum more accessible for neurodiverse visitors
  • Free lockers are located nearby. Lockers can fit backpacks and carry-on sized bags. Checked-size bags (larger suitcases) can be brought onto the Museum floor.
  • An ATM is also located nearby. 

Accessibility

  • Wheelchairs are available near the security screening on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Visit the John L. Plueger Family Welcome Center for more information about accessibility resources. Some programs require advanced notice.
  • Sensory bags are available at the John L. Plueger Family Welcome Center for neurodiverse visitors, with noise reduction headphones and fidget toys.
     

Things to See and Do

  • Explore the over 3,000 aviation and space objects on display inside two large hangars. Looking for a specific object? Search the list of objects on display to see if it's here and where you can find it.
  • Don't miss the Mary Baker Engen Preservation and Restoration Hangar where you can view staff actively restoring historic aircraft and spacecraft.
  • Visit the Donald D. Engen Observation Tower overlooking Dulles International Airport. (Hours vary, check at John L. Plueger Family Welcome Center.)
  • Take a free guided highlights tour from one of our knowledgeable volunteer guides. Many of them have amazing aviation and space experiences of their own to share!  
  • Talk with a virtual volunteer to get real-time answers to your questions. (Hours vary)
  • Check out our events calendar to find out if something special is happening.
  • Look out for carts around the Museum, where you can engage in a hands-on, facilitated activity.
  • See a show at the Airbus IMAX® Theater (entrance on the lower level). (Tickets available online or at the box office.)
  • Take a ride in a simulator. 

Food and Store

  • Get some food at Shake Shack. Open from 11am to 4pm on weekdays, and 11am to 5pm on weekends.
  • Buy a souvenir at the Museum store. 

As You Leave

  • Buy a souvenir at the Museum store.
  • Save time! Pay for parking at a kiosk near the exit.
  • Stroll past the Wall of Honor.
  • Sign up to receive our e-newsletter for stories and upcoming events.
